Much like your Standard Swiss Army knife

5 out of 5 stars

Much like your Standard Swiss Army knife
Much like your Standard Swiss Army knife. The wood handle looks classy, and adds a nice touch. More adult, I'm not embarrassed to carry this around. In fact, it typically draws compliments whenever it leaves my pocket. Also, the nail file is an upgrade over the 2nd blade. Well done Victorinox!

As my headline reads: The jury is still out on this. I purchased this so I could carry something a little lighter than what I have been carrying for years. I gave it 5 stars because the workmanship and quality of construction is excellent. I never had any tool, knife or other, polished to such a shine. The tools all snap open and closed with authority. Not something you would find on a cheaper or lesser quality item. The fit and finish are superb. The wood scales, although seemingly without a finish on them, probably have a flat finish or oil sealer, not really sure but they are nice and ergonomic. It feels nice in hand. Blade is razor sharp.
Now, why do I have reservations: I have been carrying a Leatherman Surge as well as a Buck 110 knife for a long time, every day. Yes they are heavy, but they are very heavy duty and never let me down. Compared to those, the Victorinox seems flimsy and not for anything but very light use. The tools were initially very hard to open and close, but a little oil seemed to make things better, but still difficult. The steel does not seem as strong as either of my other two EDC tools but again, time will tell. I wanted to get this to replace carrying those two on an everyday basis, and I use them every day. I am just not convinced this will hold up to everyday use like they did.
However, I am going to carry this for a week and leave my other tools at home and give it a thorough testing. Perhaps it really will live up to its reputation as a great overall tool, and I want to give it a fair shake.
To sum up my review, it is very well made, no sharp uncomfortable edges, has plenty of tools for most small tasks. The cons at this point are that it feels a little flimsy and appears to be more for light duty tasks. But again, time will tell. 5 stars for the quality build, but as my title states: The jury is still out on this one. I'll edit my post in a few weeks to reflect how it held up or didn't in everyday usage.
EDIT: Well after carrying this for a full week with no other multi tools, and giving this a fair trial period, I must say it is a great little knife/tool. It has grown on me to the point that I will be carrying this every day. The tools have gotten smoother and smoother to open every day, they are sturdy and do the job they were intended to do. I am glad I gave it some time and gave it a good workout. My questions on its usefulness and durability have been answered, and I am very pleased with this Swiss knife. It will be with me every day with or without other multi tools.

A wonderful and handy piece of kit, small and unobtrusive. It replaced a similar model that is no longer sold, and that I forgot to leave home on a recent flight that was therefore confiscated by the TSA. Though at one time a commonplace occurrence, this lapse on my part hasn't happened in decades. Thankfully, Victorinox still manufactures a replacement.

I had a Spartan Swiss Army knife decades ago, which always seemed like it was the perfect pocket knife, but it had taken a walk somewhere along the way. I was unable to find another Spartan, and although others came and went, they never seemed like they fit all my needs without being too much. I don't want a big, heavy knife, just one with well made tools that I know I'll use, and that corkscrew is ever so much more valuable to me than scissors, since there's no substitute for it when you need it.
When I saw this beautiful version, I asked Santa to bring me one. I love it! It has just what I need, it's well built, the blade is sharp, the tools are high quality, the wood is beautiful, and, along with the contours, makes it a pleasure to hold and use.

The victorinox evowood 14 is a hybrid knife between wenger's evowood 14 and the victorinox climber. It is a beautiful little pocket knife. Let's start with some specs.
The knife is 85 mm long, true to the standard wenger length, and 20 mm wide at the widest point, which is about the same as the 4 layerd victorinox huntsman.
The handels or scales are made of walnut wood and hold no scale tools, like tooth pick or tweezer, etc. but they do look and feel awesome with the ergonomic cut. Unlike the picture it has no cut out for the awl.
    The tools:
Top layer has the most tools, starting from back to front it has:
Nail file, wenger model with a nail cleaner tip, that could be used with minimum tork for select philips screws.
Main blade, wenger model, speerpoint, around 55 mm long cutting edge. Has a nice belly to it and as always with SAK's easy to sharpen.
Scissors, wenger style, serrated, self sharpening ( never needed that), it has a built in lever that acts like a spring wich is not user replaceable and can get stuck, it did with this knife the second time I used it, just bend it slightly back a bit and it will be springy again. Very annoying. I still prefer the victorinox style scissors for me, but it is a matter of personal preference.
Cap liter, bottle opener with screwdriver and wire stripper. Wenger model. It does a good job at opening bottles, and used as a screwdriver it has a friction lock, meaning that when you push on it, it will slide back into the handle a bit and won't close on your fingers, nice. And of course a wire stripper that I have never used on any model, but you may find a use for it. Has no half stop at 90 degrees.
Can opener, victorinox model of the 84 mm models, it opens a can and with practise can do it faster then a dedicated can opener. It also has a small screwdriver on the top that can be used on more common phililps screws.
    The back tools:
Corkscrew, for me more important than a philips, victorinox style and does fit the mini screwdriver.
Awl, victorinox style, hallelujah! Way better then the one from wenger, with a sharpened edge and a sowing eye.
Key ring, well, it's a key ring, nothing special, you may want to put a lanyard or something on it. The knife will be probably to large for attaching it to you keys.
And that's all the tools. Fit and finish could be a bit better, the wood sticks a bit out from the liners, but really that is nitpicking. The victorinox logo looks like it is lasered in, and on the main blade on one side it says "victorinox, swiss made, delemont" , nothing on the other side.
I really like this knife, but because of a few minor details I cannot give this one 5 stars.

It saved my life and friends boat

Reviewed in Canada on September 26, 2020

This Swiss Army knife actually saved my life , I lost It recently during a fishing trip and felt like a lost a friend, hence I searched everywhere in Montreal to get another one , it was given as a gift from my work, my wife laughed cause she said it looks like a miniature toy , actually for folks like us it’s like a toy , long story short, I was fishing for American Shad with my friend at the carillon dam in Point fortune Quebec, that year the water levels were biblically high ( the following year Quebec had devastating floods that we never saw before ) and dangerous , the anchor rope got caught on the motor and the boat was being pulled down , and water was entering the boat like a friend pouring beer in big German glass boot , I had the Swiss army Knife and I screamed and my friend John “JOHN I AM CUTTING THE ANCHOR ROPE IT’S PULLING THE BOAT DOWN” , John replied “DO IT!!!”
I took the knife with the large blade I cut the anchor rope and the boat went back to level and John rip the engine and we left. John advised “Ish you better write a letter to Swiss army and give them thanks” and boy did I send them an email even with the longitude and latitude coordinates just to show them were it happened.
So after searching all over Montreal I said to my self “Let me check Amazon , and God have mercy I found it and fell off my chair in a good way” so I purchased it right away , and the couple days later I found my Swiss Army knife in my fishing pants that I put in the garage and forgot about, so now I am super pleased that I have a back up and also something to give my second son so he won’t be upset when I give my 1st knife to my 1st son , so now we have 2 of them for both kids , I highly recommend any Swiss Army knife , it’s an investment that can save your life one day
from Ish who loves to fish and always be safe when you are on the water , peace and love ( the wall nut woods used look majestic almost like agarwood but if they used agarwood that knife would be priceless and I would still purchase it , that’s one of the reasons I love it because of the woody look to it )
