I’m a sucker for watches with this kind of mid-century design and this one also looks and feels like a well-made timepiece. I hesitate to use the word ‘timeless’ because of course this watch keeps time just fine. But I think you know what I mean. I’ve been wearing it routinely since I got it – and I have a lot of watches to choose from.
Outside of the fundamental styling, the things I really like about this watch include:
The big readable hands. For men of a certain age, I don’t want to put my reading glasses on to glance at my watch for the time. 😉 These also have the advantage of some “Super-LumiNova” treatment that make them luminescent even in dark conditions.
The sweep second hand. Most of my other watches have a second hand that ticks off each second. This smooths out the motion.
The respected Japanese movement. Time Module (TMI) is a subsidiary of Seiko and the VH31 is a reliable choice.
I really like the watchband. The Cordura nylon on the outside is casual looking and durable and more importantly, the inside is some nice soft leather.
The bezel that gives it that diver’s watch look turns the way you’d expect and is completely functional. I’m not sure why they didn’t index it to the minute beyond 30 min.
The domed crystal looks great.
Outside of these positives I’ll only mention that I wish it had a date function. And it is indeed a fairly large watch, as in it’s fairly thick. It goes with the styling but just in case you were hoping for more of a Skagen type of thinness, you won’t find that with this watch.
