Awesome watch
I bought this to replace a Seiko 5 that broke after 10 years of use (not the watchâs fault it broke). I was a little hesitant to get another automatic watch because I was only wearing it on days I worked, and winding up after my weekend was not my favorite thing. After some research I decided on the Citizen Eco-drive movement.
I also wanted something with a day/date feature and 24 hour time on the dial. The world clock feature was a huge bonus as I travel often. I was very happy to find this watch with all the features I wanted and nothing I didnât need.
I was concerned about the size as I had never had a 44mm case and I donât have big arms, but I measured and cut a diagram on a piece of paper and taped it on my wrist and decided it would be a good size. I will say I wouldnât want to go any bigger than this, but the utility and readability is well worth a little extra real estate over my previous watch.
Pros
Looks better in person – elegant without being overly dressy
Very easy to set. The analog calendar turned out to be faster to adjust than I imagined.
Easy to use the world clock feature. Just check the 24 hour hand and then use the lower dial to turn the outer ring to match that number to your current time zone, and you can see what hour it is anywhere in the world.
It looks smaller in person than I imagined, probably because there is so much going on on the face.
It is very quiet. I tried a few other watches and the timex in particular was annoyingly loud. This one is almost dead silent for me.
Solar powered, no battery replacement or winding needed. Mine came with a decent charge out of the box, but I still put it in the sun for a few hours before setting it. Refer to the manual for specifics.
Looks great with NATO straps. I swapped out the leather strap right away because it is hot where I live now and Iâm not a huge fan of colored leather.
Cons
Included strap is a bummer. The quality seems fine but I couldnât figure out how to adjust it by myself and the manual suggested I consult a watch fitter. Pish posh. I popped it off with a tiny screwdriver and threw on a cheap NATO strap in a few minutes and never looked back.
On that note, I might have made more effort if the included strap was brown or black. Blue leather just seems icky to me. But if thatâs your thing, and you donât mind taking the time to get it sized up, I guess it seems like a decent quality for the price

LOVE IT! Classy and a bit old fashioned but not really retro or steampunk-ish.
GREAT watch! I absolutely LOVE IT!!!
It’s only a little bummer that it does not come with their ‘Atomic’ time keeping (though I’m also in love with the GPS ones and that would have been even better). I’ve been waiting for a watch like this for a long time and damn, I’m trying to talk myself out of getting another as a backup, just so I don’t have to be overly careful wearing it. It has a weird but classy band once you figure it out. There were no instructions but as long as you have a microscope you can read the number of the back of the watch and then get the PDF manual online. Amazon might have a copy on their page, they used to do this stuff, but I have not found it yet.

Beautiful timepiece but…..
I bought this watch and a CASIO so I could compare at the functional level. This Citizen is a beautiful and well built timepiece. I hate to say it but Im leaning toward sending it back in favor of the Casio
– Night visibility very difficult compared to Casio
– Date dial very hard to read
– Multi timezone functions are usable
– Day of week dial quite hard to read
– Reseting when crossing time zones difficult compared to Casio
If you dont do a lot of travel and want a beauitiful and well made watch, this is it. Im not sure its for me

Eco Drive 2018
Over five years and still ticking with no battery change Eco Drive is amazing! That picture is current 2024 purchased in 2018. I must say I didn’t realize until six years later how truly beautiful the watch it. It’s simultaneously doing 12/24

Very refined class, with a touch of dapper.
Bought this for my husband back in December of 2015. As you can see from a photo taken June 2019 watch….. correction itâs more of a timepiece than an ordinary watch. The detailing in actuality is stunning the accuracy is flawless,( mental note… just leave it out on your dresser and never worry about it having to be charged as long as You have natural light coming in.) anyway back to the review it look and wears more expensive than it is. Itâs great for casual, business casual, and it really wears well in a coastal or nautical environments. In closing you wonât be dissatisfied with your purchase. So wear it like a Boss!!!!

A must have for any watch collection or watch lover
Awesome watch! this is a LOVE/HATE watch people say its ugly and people say beautiful Lol I think its cool looking keeps time just as good as my other Citizen’s and its white face is awesome to look with the creepy blue like LED hands” I simply just love it. The band is sturdy well made and attractive so I changed it to military green band in order to preserve the original band. I have showered and taken it for a dip in the bay No issues. This is NOT a dive watch. I got it in the Citizen box with warranty card/papers or online register…I call in all my watches for registration. Please read the manual everything works great on this watch.

Why this is frequently returned
We ignored the frequently returned warning and ordered. Then returned less than an hour later. Our reasons for returning: you canât see the day/date info in the small circles. Old eyes here. And you set it through an app and at least on hubbyâs android phone the screen to set everything up never actually loaded. Not sure why ye olde leather strap with a buckle needed to be converted to the weird metal watch band clasp. But that didnât help the other negatives. Had previously had Citizen EcoDrive and was disappointed in this. It did look nice.

This is a large men’s watch with a 44 mm diameter dial, polished stainless steel.
I’d say it’s more of a dressy/office watch, but it could do casual.
This is not a chronograph, if that’s what you’re looking for, this isn’t it.
The watch has 3 working sub dials, the sub dial at 3 O’clock shows the date, the sub dial at 6 shows the hour in 24 hour format, and the sub dial at 9 shows the day.
There are two crowns, one at the normal position to adjust the time and the sub dials, and one at the 4 O’clock position to rotate the inner scale to give you the time in a 2nd time zone.
Lots to look at on this watch:
If you look closely, you’ll see the crisp white dial has two different textures on it and 3 different levels.
The rings on the sub dials have tiny little metal edges around them and the indices on the chapter ring are chamfered.
The watch is good down to 100M which means you an go swimming and snorkeling with it, but it’s not a dive watch.
The price might seem a bit steep, but in my opinion, you’re getting a lot of watch for the money.
Likes:
Keeps great time (expected since it has a quartz movement) and with Eco Drive, you shouldn’t have to worry about a battery (capacitor in this case) for close to a decade.
The more time you spend with it, the more you see all the detail Citizen put into the watch.
The navy blue leather strap goes with the blue hands and the deployment clasp is well done and detailed, looks like it was forged and not just stamped.
The watch looks great on the wrist and the blue watch hands change shades as the light hits them.
DIslikes:
The deployment clasp can dig a bit into your wrist if you adjust the strap to that it’s really snug.
The crowns don’t have a stamp on them, they are blank, which is odd for a watch costing this much.
Reading the Hour and the Day dials takes a little practice.
Really, not much to complain about. It’s a great watch, just different enough to be interesting.

Most of my watches have black or dark faces, but when I saw this one I really loved the styling and the white face. I have a couple of other Eco-Drive watches and have never had an issue. I love the 44mm case on this watch! Overall I give it a 5 star rating. In comfort only a 4 star because the quick connect clasp may cause a bit of discomfort, but nothing crazy. I saw a review where the customer complained that the second hand wasn’t moving every second, but every 2 seconds or so. mine did that also, but I knew that an Eco-drive may do that if it doesn’t have a good charge. Once charged under a light it was perfectly fine. Great watch!!!

My first impression of this watch was “Wow, this thing is THICK!” but that was immediately followed by surprise at how light and effortless it feels.
First things first, the looks: the color and design of this watch is attractive, interesting, and classic. I was concerned that the blue band might make this watch look a little outlandish, or too flashy. I was happy to find that the blue goes nicely with most outfits and pairs well with brown belts/shoes/accessories. The vibrant blue hands are a nice touch that completes the watch face well.
The watch looks a little hefty right out of the box, but actually sits pretty nicely on your wrist. It’s nearly 100grams and a full 13mm thick, but I don’t find myself noticing that weight at all, and it doesn’t get caught up by long sleeve shirts either. The band is genuine leather (pardon me, “calfskin”), so not terribly high quality, but it broke in like a nice pair of jeans in very little time. The butterfly style clasp has a secure and satisfying sounding “click” when you put it on, but this does add some depth to the band, and you might notice that this clasp leaves an impression on your wrist.
There are two crowns: one at the 3 o’clock position that adjusts the time and date, and one at 4 o’clock which rotates a bezel that surrounds the watch face. I didn’t know about this second crown when I bought it, and apparently it’s there so you can tell what time of day it is in other time zones, but I’ve found this minimally useful.
After a few months of steady use, it’s showing very little signs of wear: the stainless steel case has a few very minor scuffs but mostly just shows fingerprints. The glass is showing a few nicks and scratches, but has held up impressively given that this is my daily driver and I do NOT baby it. On the topic of durability, it’s worth noting that with Eco-Drive, you may never need to replace the battery, which is definitely a plus.
Overall I’m very happy with this Citizen. Its simple, classic design with a small, almost reserved splash of color makes for a unique piece that still gets me the occasional compliment. My only complaints are very minor, so I won’t give this the perfect 5 star rating, but will happily continue to wear this for day-to-day or formal.

Very nice watch just super thick face, looked clunky on the wrist
