Japan-built, Japan-designed simplicity
This Seiko is a gem of a watch for the price range and style. If you have a Seiko automatic, there is no learning curve or break-in period. It’s good to go, right out of the box.I love the decisions the designers made in the design. Dial is smaller, with a narrow fixed bezel. The numbered bezel is ornamental, but it’s an appealing look. Some people will knock it, but how many owners of rotating bezels spend any time under water? It’s ornamental in those cases, too.The subdials are functional and appreciated. Date appears on a subdial, which is a departure from the number appearing on a window. I like the dial. With the window, I feel the numbers don’t sit square in the box.There is also a discrete power meter that you can miss if you don’t look carefully at the photos. It’s nice to know when you’re close to empty or when you’re winding the watch too much.I don’t have much of a need for a pure dress watch, and I bought this watch as a jack-of-all-occasions timepiece. On my wrist, it looks like it will serve that purpose well. One thing to note: this watch has a thick case. It’s a cake. Shirt sleeves will need to be pulled above it on the arm, not over it.If you’re new to Seiko automatics, a couple additional tips: 1. Do not change the date between the hours of 9 to 2. Those hours differ from one collector to the next, but the reasoning is that the movement is already working through the mechanics of the change during those hours. 2. You have to obtain instructions and paperwork online these days. If the box does not come with documents, it was packaged at the factory that way.A couple days of wear and a small niggle: The hands at 5:00 to 7:00 become hard to see against the lighter background of the date dial in dim light. In regular light, indoor and out, it’s perfectly fine though.

Great Seiko
This Seiko Presage is a really nice watch. Super comfortable on the wrist with a NATO leather strap. I had to cut mine down to fit but an easy operation. I love the time reserve complication and the unique date dial really stands out. This brings a real 60âs look to the face. Made in Japan while many are now assembled in China. The Seiko movement keeps great time and itâs very easy to set the crown to time and date and at 41mm is a real sweet spot in size. Love this watch and at 465$ I think was a great deal. I would highly recommend. Jeff
