The most important quality of a watch is that it keeps time?
I loved the look of this watch and thought it (Stauer) was a good quality. But I bought this for my son for Christmas but it won’t keep time. Everyday he resets it and it stops keeping the proper time. This watch doesn’t work and since a quality of a watch is measured by its accuracy then I can’t say we are happy with this purchase. Amazon said even though it doesn’t work, my order is past the return date. It comes with a 2 year limited warranty by I don’t know if we want another Stauer watch. My son loved the look but the appearance is only superficial if it doesn’t keep the correct time. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Extremely poor movement
THE GOOD: The looks of the watch and strap are really nice. The subdial placements are good with no interference other than the normal blocking from the hours/minutes hands. This is to be expected. The watch strap LOOKS nice and shiny. THE BAD: The watch strap is very stiff and the edge seems to be coated/lined/sealed with some type of plastic. I can see indentations on the edges when I examined the strap. This leads me to believe that this strap is LAYERED with materials other than leather. I have a good deal of knowledge on this subject. I used to work for a leather company/factory. The band will wear out faster and finding a replacement for this particular model is next to impossible. I’ve looked all over the internet. Next: the movement is a very poor example of how an automatic watch should function. I realize that there are tolerances to consider and again I’m no slacker on this point as well. I have several different brands of automatic/mechanical watches. Seiko/Orient/Citizens/πRatio and Tactical Frog. All of them have an extremely better gear movement than this Chinese one. This is not to say that ALL Chinese movements are bad, but this one is below par. When winding it has a tendency to grind and stick. This is very bad. When winding, the gears should function in a smooth manner. The seconds hand has a jumpy motion. Again because the movement is just plain POORLY DESIGNED. This leads to UGLY: the amount of seconds(+-) on a daily basis.the bad ones are somewhere between 10-20 seconds a day. This one however has +15-20seconds in less than 12hours which is entirely unacceptable in the course of a week. I know that some people will say that I’m just being picky. Not in my book!! On top of that, the day subdial is not aligned properly. Somehow when they built this the subdial hand was not properly placed. As the time of day moves on, the subdial hand should move accordingly with the time. At midnight it should “click” over to th correct day and by/at noon should be at/on the halfway point to the next day. Poorly put together and an entirely unacceptable watch. Of course, if you just want it for JUST looking at, then this is the watch for you!I believe that a two star rating is being generous and my OVERALL RECOMMENDATION is ABSOLUTELY DON’T BUY THIS! Looks great, attention to detail. Chinese movement takes away a star.
This is a beautiful watch, with a great attention to detail. I really like the look. The band is very stiff, and will need some breaking in before it will fit my wrist well. I was happy to see the second hand sweeps (does not tick). It may not be the smoothest sweep (like my Bulova) but it still looks good. The only thing I am irritated about is the Chinese movement. I thought I read that these were swiss movement. I wouldn’t knowingly pay over $100 for a Chinese piece of… You know.
